SIV's campaign scenario is long, and its three maps, arranged diagonally, are suboptimal in VASSAL. On the other hand, the module allows the game to remain set up for weeks without the massive table space demands of the printed maps.

Panzer Command: vmod

The first chit-pull game was Panzer Command (Victory Games, 1984, Eric Lee Smith) - soon followed by Across 5 Aprils. The game presents a match-up between a German panzer division and a Soviet tank army, roughly equivalent in size.

Before he became a leading historian of the US Army in Normandy, Joseph Balkoski was well-know in the wargaming hobby as a game designer and developer. Years prior to the publication of his first book, Beyond the Beachhead, Joe demonstrated his research into the subject matter in two grand-tactical wargame designs: Omaha Beachhead (Victory Games 1987) and St-Lô (West End 1986).
